Summer is a time of year many look forward to. In most parts of the US, the kids are home; the weather is warm, and many see it as a time to vacation, lay back, and soak up the rays, at least for some time.
So although we did more remote work last summer during COVID, working during the summer sometimes requires a special discipline to focus and be productive and efficient.
Our practice is while everyone else is taking it easy, pump up the volume and prospect relentlessly. We have always benefited handsomely from this strategy year after year.
But for those wishing they were out in the pool, having a barbecue, or relaxing at the beach, here are some tips to beat the summer blues and turn up the engine:
- Get an early start and get going, half an hour to an hour before the workday begins. Don’t get caught up in a lazy day mode. Take a long walk, go for a run, pick up a tea or coffee. Do whatever motivates you. If you are out early, you won’t feel so bad focusing because you will have already had a nice dose of fresh air.
- Plan your day the night before. Have a rough draft of what you need to accomplish by priority. For example, if you are prospecting, know who you will attempt to connect with that day and ensure you have all the information in a central CRM to execute.
- Focus! Don’t get distracted. Do the hardest tasks first, and make sure you complete your outreach during the timeframe you allotted the night before.
If you focus on the outlined tasks, you’ll be ready and fresh to enjoy the evening without falling behind.
