Importance of Selling

To me, sales is a necessary skill to master and quite helpful in all aspects of one’s life starting from a young age.

Think about it!

As a child, you may desperately want that shiny new toy that your mom has no intention of purchasing. It would be best if you sold her why she should buy it for you to get it.

Dig deep and outline all the reasons it makes perfect sense for her to get it for you and now, no less.

1.) Clutching the new teddy bear will help me fall asleep quickly at night

2.) Learning that new video game will make me popular with the cool kids

3.) Having the pretty new dress will win me the dress contestant at school for me

At a young age, we start to figure out what we need and want and realize we need to sell our concept to the powers that be to make it happen.

We also learn the critical skill of selling to get what we want, including understanding what the other person wants to convince them to buy or do for us since it helps them. In other words, they know what it is in for them. The three examples above are basic but clearly illustrate that want or need insufficient to get the item.

So in closing, ask yourself:

1.) Clutching that cuddly new teddy bear will help me fall asleep quickly at night, but what does it do for the person who will buy the teddy bear?

2.) Learning that a new video game will make you popular with the cool kids, but why does the purchaser care if you are popular in school?

3.) Having that pretty new dress will win you the dress contestant at school, but why does the purchaser of the dress care if you win the contest?

Determining the why brings you closer to getting what you want/ need.
